Message from the Standard Chartered Bank
The Standard Chartered Bank is proud of its affiliation with the Gratiaen Prize and the Gratiaen Trust’s efforts to engender literary excellence. The campaign launched by the Bank for the 2010 award “English in text, Sri Lankan in essence’” truly reflects the aspiration for recognition and distinction of local writers.
Now in its 18th year, the Gratiaen Prize rewards the best writing in English by a resident Sri Lankan, and has proved a coveted launching pad for a literary career for a number of writers. There is little doubt that the award is an important event in Sri Lanka’s cultural calendar.
I congratulate the Gratiaen Trust and its distinguished Trustees for their commitment towards fostering the art of writing in English in the island, and thank them for the opportunity afforded to the Bank to be affiliated with this prestigious event.
